ONE RICEPH Module 5 Farmer’s Field Day was held in Bucao, San Gabriel, La Union
Yesterday, October 13, 2026, the ONE RICEPH Module 5 Farmer’s Field Day was held in Bucao, San Gabriel, La Union, bringing together seed growers from across the Province of La Union, Municipal Agriculturists (MAs), Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs), and farmers from various municipalities.
A promising step toward better rice varieties! The results of this research initiative are expected to contribute to the development and identification of a potential new rice variety for inclusion in the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Seed Program, subject to the completion of the required research, evaluation, validation, and approval processes. This highlights the importance of sustained agricultural research and on-farm technology demonstrations in identifying rice varieties that can help improve farmers’ productivity and competitiveness.
Our heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Agriculture (DA) RFO-I, through its Research Division, and to the Research Coordinator of ONE RICEPH, Mr. Melvin Agngarayngay, for spearheading this valuable initiative. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the partner agencies, particularly the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), Philippine Rice Research
Institute (PhilRice), and the Province of La Union, represented by its Techno Demo Coordinator, Ms. Myrna Balanon, for their continued commitment to advancing rice research, technology demonstration, and agricultural development.
Special thanks to Mr. Carlito Eslava and all the farmer-cooperators whose dedication and active participation help translate agricultural research into practical, field-level solutions that benefit our farmers.
We also gratefully acknowledge the unwavering support of Hon. Mayor Lany Baobaoen-Carbonell, whose commitment to agricultural development continues to strengthen our local farming sector, together with the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), headed by Municipal Agriculturist Ms. Rizalina Tugelida-Quiros, and the assisting Agricultural Technologist. Mr. Randy C. Laquidan, for their valuable assistance and support in advancing agricultural initiatives in San Gabriel.
This activity reinforces the importance of research, technology transfer, and strong partnerships among government agencies, local government units, researchers, and farmers in building a more productive, resilient, and sustainable rice industry.
From research to the field, and from the field to better harvests, together, let us empower our farmers and strengthen Philippine agriculture!
